Report antisemitism
Antisemitic incidents also occur repeatedly at universities. To effectively address these issues, such incidents are documented, and the necessary steps are taken for each individual case.
Incidents can be reported via email to antisemitismus@verw.uni-koeln.de.
For information on what such a report should include and how the subsequent process works, please refer to the details provided here:
1. Identifying and Documenting:
If you notice or witness an antisemitic incident, you should document it immediately. For example, if it involves graffiti, take a photo and record the exact location and time of your observation. If it pertains to a specific verbal or written statement, you should also record your observation as thoroughly as possible and as early as possible. Important details include:
- Description & photo of the incident, if possible
Example: “ Graffiti (text) written with a marker on a door”
- Location:
Address or building/building no.
Part of building & floor
Room/room no. or area
Exact location, if possible
Example: “Philosophikum, 3rd floor, men's toilets opposite the Historical Library, inside by the door”
- Date & time of the incident/observation:
Example: “Wednesday, October 16, around 3:30 p.m.”
2. Report:
Send your notes and photos promptly by e-mail to: antisemitismusverw.uni-koeln.de. Please also mention whether you have already taken further steps yourself and if you need further support or advice.
3. Confirmation:
The Equal Opportunities Department will send you a confirmation of receipt and ask for additional information if needed. Your personal details will be treated with strict confidentiality.
4. Coordination of further measures:
Your report will be reviewed, and the next steps will be coordinated by the Department of Equal Opportunities. Depending on the nature of the incident, further actions will be taken.
For example, (if it is a graffiti incident,) immediate removal will be arranged. In the case of an assault, support will be provided to the affected individuals, and they will be referred to appropriate support services. In all cases, the needs of the reporting or affected person(s) will be taken into account.
If requested, a confirmation will be sent after the issue has been resolved.
5. Documentation of incidents:
The Equal Opportunities Department documents all reported incidents.
